What is Hardening
Hardening is a heat treatment process in which a suitable material is heated to a prescribed temperature and then cooled in a controlled manner. The goal is to increase the hardness and durability of stressed surfaces, always with regard to the toughness and function of the part.
There is no single universal procedure. Depending on the material and application, it may involve through-hardening or surface processes that create a hard layer while maintaining a tougher core. Hardening is usually followed by tempering.
Precise material specification, required hardness, potential case depth, and the specific surfaces involved are decisive. Without these data, it is impossible to reliably design a regime or evaluate the result.
Heat treatment can cause dimensional changes or deformation. For precision parts, a machining allowance and final grinding or other finishing after hardening are therefore planned in advance.
We provide the production process from raw material through machining and hardening to final grinding and inspection. Material certificates and complete drawings help to set the process correctly.
